MEET THE ARTIST

Carol McElroy is a portrait artist located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. She specializes in oil painting portraiture and prefers subjects of fantasy, dark florals and deep color schemes. After attending The Art Institute of Ft Lauderdale, she started a family with her high school sweetheart. She now lives and paints at her turn of the century farmhouse where she maintains a goth homestead.

While specializing in oil, Carol works in a variety of mediums, including pastel, charcoal, acrylic and clay. Her studio is located on the first floor of her 3-story farmhouse and is currently invitation only. Formerly the dining room of the century old home, it has been repurposed for creating in her own private space. Filled with inspiration from some of her favorite artists as well as some of her own pieces, Carol's studio is a great representation of her as an artist.

Carol is inspired by fantasy and mythology in creating her vibrant world through oil paint. She grew up pouring over books about mythical creatures and fantasy lands, an influence that shows up in her own personal pieces. While most of her commissions are standard portraits, the work she creates for herself are far from standard. Deep, saturated colors inspire the dark fantasy that cover her canvases. Stories of the fantastical inspire her subjects. In a world of the mundane, her art is an escape into the imagination.
